Got My Master Recording Back
I had signed with a record label, and the contract stated that they kept the master recording, and in return, I would get (within 1 year's time) heavy promotion and the CD released and distributed (digital and hard copy) to all media outlets. They breached the contract. I did not get heavy promotion, nor was the hard copy of the CD ever released. I contacted all of the radio stations, and they all, but a few, advised me that the record label did not send them anything. The reason they had my music was because of me giving it to them. I approached the label letting them know I wanted to be released from their contract and had asked for the master recording back. They agreed to release me, but they said the master was theirs and would not release it. In the contract, there was also a loophole stating that I would have to pay X amount of dollars in return for the master recording if I back out from the contract for any reason. I came to Kristen Beck about this matter. She represented me and immediately sent them a letter. We settled out of court, and Kristen was able to get my master recording back for me. She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and informative. Thank you so much, Kristen! God bless!
